Went here with an older family member that is not so mobile. The grounds are easily accessible for less mobile individuals including wheelchair access. If you take the service entrance there is a gate that a person from the museum will open and allow you to drop your family member off practically at the front door. The walking trails on the property are extensive and I saw a place that rents canoes for the waterways. It was a lovely green space surrounding a very old castle. It was kept up very well and we enjoyed it thoroughly. The cafe is simple meaning the menu is limited but the quality was quite good. I had broodje kroket on bruin brood that was just right. They offer a small selection of nice beers as well as the usual lineup. The wines were also limited in selection but quite nice. The staff was efficient, friendly, and accommodating. All in all the experience was quite nice. A lovely midday lunch in a well kept national monument. Definitely will go back and recommend that if you the chance then...
Read moreHeeswijk castle is quite nice castle. It is open almost everyday from 10 to 17. This is except on Mondays. The price is 11 euro like most of the castle around. They give you kind a brochure which explains about the rooms. In that brochure also there is qr code which you can scan and use as audioguide. Let me start with the experience. The castle garden was quite small when you come to other castles. The surrounding was also limited in terms of walking roads. We said ok there is no big garden let's walk but it was quite short. Besides, of the castle there is coffee bar in the castle garden. Coffee and a cake is 5 euro. I might say we try the apple cake it was delicious. We like the castle, it is the first time I went inside of it. I wouldn't say it was spectacular but I like the expreience. Overall, 11 euro is expensive for thats it is. If you already see some castle around the Netherlands I would say you can skip it. It would worth to do tour with bike & walk or rent a boat...
Read moreIt was a wonderful half-day visit for us and a 3 y.o. We used Kruidvat autumn museum card and cost us 4,99 per person instead of normal entrance price of 11 euro. An extra 1 euro for activity sheet for our daughter.
It was nice because at bigger castle or palace, we got only to see the main rooms whereas here we were able to walk through the passages for the people working there.
On a nice day would be nice to have brunch there.
The website only mentions one parking area along the highway but later on we found out that there’s another parking area closer to the castle. We do prefer the one along the highway because it’s an easier access from highway and the tree-lined promenade was lovely along with the gate.
Later on we discovered that about until 10 years ago the owner lived in what now is the restaurant and gave the tour personally to the visitors.
Just across the castle, we found a memorial stone for the 101 airborne paratroopers who landed...
