Smooth Sailing (on 3 wheels) in Bonaire
Just when I thought we’ve seen it all, the Dutch Caribbean Island of Bonaire introduced us to ‘landsailing’ – Yes, you read that right, sailing on land! Bonaire Landsailing Adventures have a purposely built track offering a unique go-cart/sailing adventure like nothing I’ve experienced before! In a blokart, you sit in a comfortable hammock-like seat and steer the front wheel with handlebars attached to long forks like an old-school chopper. The rear wheels of the kart are set far apart providing good stability and a smooth ride. After receiving some important safety and blokarting instructions we were ready to go!
As I don’t know much about sailing, I was a little apprehensive about trying this new recreational sport, however landsailing turned out to be an amazing experience, and much easier than I thought it was going to be. Over-all the ride was surprisingly smooth too. I understand that with a nice breeze it is common to reach speeds of 20-25 miles per hour (30-40 km/hr) and even faster in strong winds. I don’t know how fast I was going, all I know is that I was having fun – I felt like a kid again!
After a couple of laps, I was comfortable enough to try to go faster and pass some folks - It was an amazing feeling to get the sail just right and feel the wind push me faster down the track! I could see that my wife was enjoying it as well, as she was always smiling as I passed her 😉. I really enjoyed a little slide/drift coming out of the wind-powered corner as it reminded me of growing up driving on snow covered streets in the winter. So, if you’re looking for a unique fun experience that will get a little adrenaline flowing through your veins, then landsailing is for you!

Read moreWe visited Bonaire during a cruise with Royal Caribbean and, as avid snorkelers, decided to try something different for a change. With our 12-year-old daughter in tow, we were excited to discover this land sailing excursion—especially since she could captain her own BloKart rather than ride with a parent. That alone sealed the deal!
From start to finish, this was one of the most well-organized and well-instructed excursions we’ve ever experienced. Upon disembarking, we were warmly greeted by Donna, who answered several questions before directing us to an air-conditioned bus. Our driver, Andrew, shared fun facts and thoughtful commentary about Bonaire along the way, making the short trip to the site even more enjoyable.
Once onsite, the team gave clear instructions, fitted us with helmets and gloves, and ensured everyone felt comfortable and confident. They were highly attentive—capturing photos and videos throughout while also keeping a close eye on safety. Afterward, we were treated to a complimentary bottle of water and a reusable freezer mold filled with ice cream—a fun, thoughtful touch!
Additionally, all of the photos and videos taken during the experience are uploaded to their website, where you can download them for your own memories. They even create a 3–4 minute highlight video featuring your group—an unexpected and very appreciated touch.
On the return ride, Andrew took us through Bonaire’s charming downtown area, pointing out shops, local eateries, and scenic seaside spots—all just a five-minute walk from the port.
In short: this experience is a winner for both kids and adults. It’s unique, exciting, and extremely well-run. Donna and Andrew’s energy and care truly shine through. We wholeheartedly recommend this excursion—it exceeded expectations...
Read moreThanks for the permanent grins. We were definitely glad we did this. The consistent 5 star reviews are accurate. We're scuba divers, and would say this was the second most fun activity on the island after scuba diving. Best of all, the non-divers and younger (and older HA!) people in our group were able to participate in this, so we all raced as a group. It's actually pretty easy to start but you actually can build up some skill in the short time you have running the track once you figure out how it works. It's pretty unique and we had never seen this before. We were a little concerned with weather, but it's at a permanently windy spot, and when it rained a little, all it did was make it a little cooler and more fun with a little mud spatter. They provide the helmets, gloves, and glasses if needed. The friendly owner was easy to get in touch with through chat and we arranged our time easily online. If you have a few people, make a reservation to save your spot. They offered pickup, but the drive out there was nice and we went to the rocky shore afterwards to watch the waves pound against the rocks. A half hour was good for us, and the price was pretty reasonable for such a one of a...
