Kasteel Hackfort — Attraction in Bronckhorst

As early as 1392, there was a registered 'house with outer bailey and moats', a castle keep, on this spot. During the Eighty Years' War it was largely destroyed by the Spanish, but rebuilt by Borchard van Westerholt in 1598. After that it changed hands a few times and was rebuilt and 'modernized' a couple of times. The last owners, a brother and four sisters of the Van Westerholt family, ensured that the castle became the property of Natuurmonumenten after their death.

The castle is still in very good condition, as well as the surrounding garden (now full of crocuses!) with the still working watermill (grain mill and sawmill), the vegetable garden, and the coach house in which now brasserie de Keuken van Hackfort is located.

The castle is located in the beautiful surroundings of Vorden, where at least 7 other castles and magnificent mansions can be found. Well worth a walk or bike ride! I myself took a break during my walk, with coffee and apple pie at the Kitchen of Hackfort. Not just a piece of apple pie by the way, but a cute little work of art that looked great and tasted...

A great historical place to visit. The walks around the grounds are very much worth it, with nice views on the castle. The parking space is large enough so no queueing to get in. One negative point: The two-connector charging station is operated by EVBox and will not work with many common charge cards. The technical-service phone number on the station does not...

“Opendag” bezocht en waarom tussen haakjes? Omdat we nergens zagen staan in de facebook advertentie dat het dus eigenlijk een te betalen opendag was. En ja als je er dan al staat dan betalen we maar maar 10€ pp om binnen te kijken in een eigenlijk hotel wat in een kasteel is gemaakt vond ik best veel geld want er is niet heel veel meer over van hoe het ooit was. Ja de muren plafond en hier en daar wat oude spulletjes en foto’s met verhalen maar eigenlijk hebben we een indruk gekregen van hoe het hier kan zijn om hier te logeren. We stonden dan ook heel snel weer buiten en dan is 20€ best veel. Maar goed we zijn maar gaan wandelen door het gebied en het was prachtig dat zeker al kunnen de oudere mensen nog wel eens leren lezen want we hebben toch echt vaak zien staan op de paden te lopen en honden aan te lijnen maar een aantal mensen gaan toch even de paden af en ook hebben we losse honden gezien Dus wat dat betreft snap ik dat er veel controle moet zijn en die zullen behaald...
