Bargerveen Nature Reserve — Attraction in Emmen

Beautiful location for walking or cycling tours. Very diverse landscape with lots of different birds, snakes, butterflies, other animals and plants where certain species won't be found anywhere else in the country. Longer and shorter hikes are possible from 5k to 12k and even up to 17k. Long stretches though, are without cover in case there is a lot of wind. Parking available on the North and south side of the moors. On the south side of the moors, there's a large parking area, a restaurant and a sheepfold. Also next to the sheep there's a large stable with cattle. Both can be visited by the public from special viewing platforms high above...

Vreselijk om te zien hoe de natuur wordt verpest door de bouw van een mega stal voor schapen en koeien aan de rand van het prachtige veen. Verwacht er alleen stank en overlast van. Wat moet hier een horecabedrijf? Natuur liefhebbers komen hier niet voor. Recreatie om het geld uit Europa binnen te halen.......... De natuur wordt geweld aangedaan door het kappen van alle bomen. Schande! Alle dieren rondom de mega stallen zijn verdwenen. Door het nog steeds zakken van de waterstand verrot de bovenste veenlaag, gevolg samen met de mest van de schapen en koeien, is het Bargerveen de grootste CO2 vervuiler in Drenthe.

Én Staatswanbeheer maar bomen kappen en mest op de weilanden...

At the end of the world, there is Bargerveen, with a very nice sculpture exhibition called "Into Nature". Nice cafe at the entrance. On the north-eastern side there is a superb Tea Garden...
