Absolute wonderful place to visit! I went with a friend (we're both 21) we spent around two hours in the castle. Castle was wonderful to explore, we booked a children's pack with the stamp map which was super fun to fill out (a couple stamps were out of ink tho) The information booklet is filled with information about the castle and a very detailed description of the exploration route. We also had a blast playing the games in the basement and outside. My only complaints are that the medieval towers stairs are VERY tight and steep, I'm claustrophobic and it made me very uncomfortable, I would skip that part of the tour next time. And many doorways are short, if you're over 170ish cm you'll have to duck. Most of the "extra" information is in Dutch. But the videos are in Dutch. German and English. Super awesome that there's FREE parking in a partly shaded lot and your ticket comes with a FREE drink. Also, their website has a free video tour that's incredibly detailed - giving information on the previous owners and the role the castle played in the past! You can also see the areas that are off limits to visitors regularly. Overall I cannot recommend this castle enough, the price is beyond fair (especially with free parking and a free drink!). You will not be disappointed! Great...
Read moreHad a chance to visit this beautiful castle! The reason why I’m giving 1star it’s because of the STAFF’S ATTITUDE!! This place supposed to be kids friendly! They need to have kids friendly staff!!
Towards the end of our visit my children wanted to go back to the table where they had helmets, this staff member came up to us told my kids that they were not allowed to touch those without asking , he approached us very unfriendly way! I told him that my kids don’t speak Dutch! Before I had a chance to translate to my kids what he said my little one touch it and then he very arrogantly scolded my kid!!! He said: “stop making a mess young man!”, I was shocked because no one was making a mess.. I told him that earlier all the kids were grabbing all the the stuff and no one said a word, the other staff members were watching them… Even if you are not allowed to touch things without asking, there is a way to talk to the kids!!!!! ABSOLUTELY NOT the way he did!!!! I payed €48 so my kids have fun not get scolded like that by a rude worker!!!!! ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE, RUDE!! I did I for the front desk how unhappy I was! Here is picture of him so you know who to avoid in case god forbid your child will...
Read moreI was staying nearby in Heerlen and had the Museumkaart so I decided to visit Hoensbroek Castle on a weekday. I didn't expect much, but it was actually very beautiful and the museum display was modern and well thought out. It's definitely worth getting the €2 guidebook (especially if you only speak English) as it explains the route and every room. There are some signs and explanations, but mostly in Dutch and you can easily miss out on the prison and secret room if you don't have the guidebook. They also have some nice modern displays with projections and explanations also available in English. I thought it was very cute that these were triggered by pressing a key shaped sensor to a lock. Some rooms also had an older audio guide triggered by buttons on the wall. The castle also seemed very kid-friendly, they had stamps to be collected, games and interactive displays. There are however lots of stairs and you can go up to the rafters of the donjon, but if you have difficulties with stairs I'm not sure you would enjoy it. The castle also has a cafe and quite a few lovely birds. Definitely recommend visiting it if you're in the area and...
