Verhildersum — Attraction in Het Hogeland

We were recommended this museum by the campsite owner that we were staying in. I am so glad they told us about it. For a start, you get a LOT for your entry ticket. Beautiful exhibitions and a view of how farming was done, where and how the workers lived, the fascinating history about the 'castle', lovely gardens, incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff who spoke really good English. We are so glad we stopped and spent a few hours here. Although we didn't use them, there were two lovely looking cafes too, and QR codes that could be scanned for further information in English and German languages (as info points were in Dutch, but Google translate camera worked well for teanslations too) A great...

I came through during a cycle tour from Groningen. There is free entrance to the garden, which is large and nicely decorated with sculptures. The mansion gives a nice insight on the life in former days here. Nowadays also a neighbouring farmhouse has become part of the premises. Mooie Borg..stijlvol en gezellig ingericht in de stijl waarin de borgbewoners moeten hebben geleefd. Mooie tuin om in te wandelen. Erg mooie beelden in de bloemrijke en spannende borg tuin: bronzen naakten van beeldhouwer Roos, die door het spelen met balans en schoonheid alleen al de moeite waard zijn. Daarbij leuke wandeling door landerijen naar de museumboerderij. In t Schathoes gebak..koffie en thee, alcohol en de mogelijkheid tot dineren.

Leuk uitje ook voor een hele dag en zeker ook met kinderen door de afwisseling: leerzaam, mooi, leuk en lekker ( restaurant).

Alle 3 geopende Groninger borgen(Fraelema, Menkema en Verhildersum) zijn een bezoek waard, ze hebben elk een eigen sfeer, liggen in een ander landschap en je kunt er met kinderen altijd terecht voor een snuf geschiedenis en cultuur en een mooie wandeling met iets lekkers.
