Fort Honswijk is a lovely, small historical outpost along what is called the Hollands Waterlinie. It does feature a beautiful lookout point over the Lek and 'T Wall rivers and a walking path around the fort that takes maybe 15 minutes total. On Sundays a guided tour of the inner chambers of the Fort are offered. And there is a small snack bar & facilities for visitors & resident artists. Parking is down the hill about 5 minutes walk from the tourist entrance. The site is not exactly wheelchair friendly & kids may be bored easily as there is little to distract..although there is a ( young) kid's path where they can find little "prizes"...

Fort Honswijk is a truly beautiful and peaceful place to visit. Surrounded by water and nature, it offers a perfect escape from the busy city life. The walking paths are scenic, the historic architecture is fascinating, and the views over the river landscape are absolutely stunning.

It’s not only a great spot for history lovers, but also for nature enthusiasts and photographers. The combination of greenery, water, and old fortifications creates a magical atmosphere, especially on a sunny day.

Highly recommended for a weekend trip or a relaxing walk. Don’t forget your camera — this place is...

During my stay in Holland this one of mine most nice experiences. Our group ( 4 people ) does not speak Dutch, but nonetheless we had an excelent tour with really Dutch gentleman, who really knew what is he talking about and was maximally ready to show us all the secrets of this really big piece of military architecture. The group of people, who are taking care about the fort are really doing great job ! The tours have to be booked before and they are not every day, be aware of that. But really - it´s WORTH IT. Respect to the group and all the best wishes I and rest of my...

As others mentioned - its free, but not much to do otherwise (if you had not already booked a tour in advance). There are some rooms you can peek into but there is no literature explaining the fort's significance that I found on the outside. Parking is on the opposite side of the road, behind the fort. Its a short walk from there. The drive to the fort was probably my favorite part. Lush green fields with livestock and old-timey homes. Gorgeous sight.
