De Spelerij - Uitvinderij — Attraction in Rheden

I had this place on my wishlist to visit for several years already but somehow never got to it. Finally was able to visit this a few days ago using the Social Deal discount. My kids of 8 and 10 very much enjoyed it and can't wait to return! We spent the entire day there from opening until close and were still short on time. Especially the handicraft in "De Uitvinderij" was very special. You almost get overwhelmed with options what to create when they explain how everything works. From thereon the kids can just go and have fun and let their fantasy go and work with some great tools and materials. Staff is very friendly and helpful but also stays at a distance so you really get the opportunity to try things on your own. And failing and trying again is not an issue. Great way to learn! We couldn't stop building things with metal (age 10 and up). So much fun. The outdoor playground is alternative to what you typically see in playgrounds. Personally expected a little more from that part. Still nicely done, but a lot of the same, especially to the right of the indoor place. Our kids only enjoyed it for a short while. This is - straight up, no joke - one of the most wonderful places in the world. If you are visiting the region, you absolutely should make time to visit - give yourself a whole day here, particularly if you have children. Made almost entirely of recycled materials, De Spelerij offers a wide variety of play areas packed into a surprisingly small space, so that there's always something new to discover around the next corner. There are countless inventive motion and static sculptures to admire, a workshop full of tools to create your own artistic endeavours, and you can make your own lunch by cooking stok brod (stick bread) or making popcorn over the open burners. Large, child-centered playground with attractions that your child has never seen before - and will not forget. As an adult, the place may seem makeshift and potentially dangerous, however, all attractions are technically sound (checked every day). The indoor “uitvinderij” (invention hall) lets your children invent an construct their own creations using (childproofed) saws, glue guns and other machinery. The restaurant is simple in nature and in addition you can also bake your own bread and popcorn. Absolute recommendation for the age group 4 - 11.
