JuttersMuseum (Maritime and Beachcomber Museum Flora) : I came here for the first time thinking we were going to see a bunch of boxes and shells… boy, was I wrong! This is absolutely a hidden treasure of Texel, FULL of treasure!! A Brilliantly laid out tour, the level of detail, I found amazing!! Just seeing a museum piece holding so many fishermen’s glove that had been washed up was quite a sight! As for seeing a wooden Patrick Stewart from Star Trek, fairground attraction (“you must be this tall to ride this”!) from a Brighton pier fairground that blew into the sea during a storm only to wash up on Texel beach a few days later… amazing! Stories of a Norwegian car supplying ship that sunk… they have the Volvo and Saab car bumpers as proof.. TVs from a ship that lost 70 TVs…. And old WW2 mine… torpedos, aircraft propellers and engines, old anchors…. And a million other things, great and small …. Many touching stories from old newspapers,…. Just trying to remember everything they have is impossible!! (I forgot my phone… no photos!! Grrrrr!!) I will just say, it is REALLY worth a visit, 1hr-90 minutes but to literally see everything in detail would take a good 2 hours !! Needless to say.. I loved it and would thoroughly recommend it!!! Thanks Juttersmuseum for a...
Read moreMaritime and Beachcomber Museum Flora has a diversity of beach finds dating back more than 80 years. Impressive, amazing, exciting, captivating, sometimes funny, sometimes witnessing great human suffering and carelessness as far as our living environment is concerned. Everything is displayed with love and attention to detail.
Discover the maritime past and present of beachcombers, shipwrecks and Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution, among others. In the various atmospheric indoor areas, various films are shown continuously alongside the exhibitions. For children, there are treasure hunts, games and an extensive playground outside. In the outdoor area, shipwrecks - including a rescue capsule that may be entered - and other large wrecks and wreckage are displayed. Explanations on signs in Dutch and German. Definitely...
Read moreIt is a MUST place. I loved it, eventhoug maritime is not my field but I could spend an hour here looking around. You can go inside a life-boat rescue capsule or a boat. Many rubbish found on the shore which was collected and brought into the museum includes a love box which was opened and put out to the viewers. If you have a kid, you can even spend more time, as a playground is there for them, while adults can enjoy the coffeeshop.
There is a room with a movie, which is only in Dutch so I could not understand but English was used in...
