Heath and woodland walk — Attraction in Utrechtse Heuvelrug

This forest and the ones surrounding are a great visit. These are among the eldest of forests you can find in the Netherlands. Great for a visit with kids and family, great to just explore and wander around by yourself or find a nice quiet spot with your loved one and get a bit romantic. If you take your time and are a bit quite there are so many animals and birds to be seen. If you are lucky you might even see the herd of wild cows with log dreadlocked hairs, standing easily in the Meadows. We did the barrier-free trail, which we chose to be able to take our stroller along our hike. It turned out to be a good choice. The gates can be opened with the help of rope, so that the park or the trail can be accessed by wheelchair users themselves. The ground is prepared with gravel. In dit gebied kom ik zeker wel 4 x per jaar. Het blijft mij trekken. Het is een afwisselend gebied met bos en heide velden. Maar het heeft veel te lijden gehad van de droogte in 2018 en 2019. Er zijn 3 redelijk grote plassen, maar 2 daarvan zijn opgedroogd lijkt het en er begint al vegetatie op te groeien. Er lopen runderen in het gebied rond, als je hun niet in de weg loopt, doen ze dat bij jou ook niet. In de herfst zijn hier veel paddenstoelen in de bossen. En aan de randen van de grote plassen groeit het mooie zonnedauw ( vleesetend plantje ). Op een zwoele avond in de zomer kun je hele koren horen van kikkers die aan het kwaken zijn. De blauwe heidekikker zit er ook, maar die heb ik zelf nooit gezien. Je kan in de zomer libellen zien uitsluipen uit hun larven-stadium. Het veld zelf staat vol mooie solitaire grove dennen.
