Von Gimborn Arboretum — Attraction in Utrechtse Heuvelrug

Nice Arboretum i.e., tree museum in the center of the Netherlands. Entrance is a bit impersonal as there's no one to welcome you (tickets are bought from e machine) but the volunteers working on site are friendly enough, although a map with the layout of the parc would be great. Fascinating collection of trees in a well maintained parc. The shop at the entrance offers some interesting books and leaflets as well as a variety of plants for sale. Even if you're not specifically interested in botanic gardens the parc offers you a nice stroll through in beautiful settings, especially in the autumn. What a marvelous place! A hidden gem for tree lovers or anyone who loves to go for a walk in a serene beautiful place. Even in the middle of winter, on a dull grey day, the striking deep green of the giant conifers in contrast with the heath is lovely. And it smells wonderfully of pine! There are loads of winding pathways amid lakes, bridges, statues, affording different views every time. It also has a big playground for children. Well maintained, easy to walk. Just a bit difficult to find, on a side street. Well away from the busy road, thankfully, so it is very quiet. Only bird song!! You can easily spend a couple of hours...

Zonder dat ik vooraf wist wat ik kon verwachten, heb ik dit museum bezocht. Ik was er meteen om 9.00u, dan kun je door digitaal te betalen al door het poortje het park in. Wat een enorme verrassing was dit! Prachtige plek om rustig te bekijken. Goed bereidbaar met scootmobiel en was ook blij dat ik deze bij had want het is toch nog een stukje wandelen. Verspreid over het arboretum stonden ook beelden opgesteld die, op een enkele na, heel goed in het landschap pasten. Heel mooi boshuis ingericht met educatieve informatie, verwacht je niet midden in het bos. Hoogtepunt voor mij was toch wel de heidetuin en de mooie grote vijver. Ik heb er ruim 2 uur doorgebracht. Als ik nog een verbeterpuntje mag geven: ik heb de aangegeven beeldenroute gevolgd maar heb toch het idee dat ik niet alles gezien heb. Pas om 11.00u, toen het winkeltje open was en ik daar een koffie met koek heb genuttigd op het terras, zag ik binnen een plattegrond liggen. Kennelijk was er ook een folderrek bij de betaalautomaat maar die was leeg. Maak 1 duidelijke route die je kunt volgen met desnoods een afkorting voor bezoekers die niet zo ver kunnen.
