Boekesteyn country house was built around 1720 for Nicolaes Sautyn, from a powerful Amsterdam merchant family. "Boeke" is old Dutch for beech, therefore its Boekesteyn refers to the many beeches on the estate. Two historic beeches adorn the lawn in front of the estate as additional evidence. During the centuries the real estate was in hands of different merchants families. In 1992 Natuurmonumenten bought Boekesteyn with Brambergen from the pharmaceutical company Solvay-Duphar.
