We walked from the harbour area to the Tapeka Point Track. It was tricky at first because Google maps directed us along the road which didn't feel too safe. Once at the start of the track its actually a quick walk. Maybe 20min one way and we stopped to take pics. You start walking of a small field between houses, not on a path, but it is marked. Apparently it can get slippery after rain. The views are 360° and pretty awesome! On the way back we book Jim's path/track and followed the Russel signs which was clear. Read the signs as one route is only accessible during low tide.

This is certainly a worthy little walk while your in Russel. Like anything in Russel I takes about 3mins to drive there from the village centre. The walk itself is short but is all ups and downs on a reasonable track. The track could get a little muddy and slippery in places in the rain but overall it’s a good track and most people shouldn’t have to many issues. You get a lot of scenic photo opportunities along the way and from the top 360 vistas of the whole area making this a must do on you visit to Russel.

Tapeka Track has some beautiful views over the Bay of Islands, to the clear blue sea, islands, rocky outcrops, boats and pods of dolphins if you are so lucky. The location is in the small village of Tapeka near Russell and some friendly locals gave us some good advice getting there. The track to the top is a little slippery and steep in some areas, but mostly it is very easy to follow and well trodden.

This is a track that challenges your fitness and intuition for nature. There isn't an actual track. You need to stick to the left of a private property and go up a steep grass bank. Once you there, you can have a really good birds view of Tapeka beach. Then there are more grassed walkway which are very slippery and muddy. We gave up after two steep muddy banks that are right next to the cliff. Not recommended for winter or after...
