I admit I'm a bit spoilt for choice growing up in Wellington and was a little sceptical about how how good a park could be in a place with relatively little elevation change, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Every trail I went on was immaculately maintained, clean and clearly signposted with both direction and name. I took Holland Days, Hua Link and Taane's Climb up. That climb isn't difficult but even advanced racers would find it excellent for a speed climb. Then took Te Ara Kaanihi (intermediate) and Te Aranga Hou (advanced) down. Advanced might be pushing it for highly skilled riders but damn those jumps are amazingly well built. There's something for everyone here, no doubt about it. Everyone with an interest in MTB needs to put the Waitangi Mountain Bike Park on their bucket list. You won't be disappointed. Photos are of Holland Days, a bit of Taane's Climb, near the top and the top of Kiwi Flow.

Serendipitous and magical finding. The cruise ship made an unanticipated stop in Bay of Islands NZ. To my utter delight, a 4 km walk from the cruise port awaited a day of mountain bike paradise … in paradise. Bikes for hire (rent) are nicely spec’d full suspension high end bikes. The trails and park are fun, well marked, and offer lots of variety. And surprise: the cafe (yes there’s a cafe) offers excellent coffee, confections, and sandwiches. Make a day of it. I did and would again!

Great work these trail builders have put into this, greatly surpassed what I had expected especially conditions for winter. Definitley has trails to get the adrenalin flowing. Allthough short on the down hill runs the design of the return uphill to these are easy. This park has a lot of fun rollers and several trails with good table top jumps. Place is well sign posted. Would suit all types of riders. Good place to learn jumps as it caters young kids to advanced riders.

We hired mountainbikes for my birthday. The mountainbikes are really well maintained full suspension bikes that are great! The trails are really nice and vary a lot in difficulty, don't be like me and ride too fast. I suffered a fall and I was not feeling like biking any further. My boyfriend called the owner of the mountainbike rental and she immediately jumped in her car to come and get me. I was a bit emotional but distracted myself by having a talk with her. Congratulations on starting your business so young together! Really admirable! She provided first aid really well and they called the local first aid post that told us to go to an actual hospital. While I got stitches there (a few hours later) the owners called me to check up on me. Great customer service, great bikes and great trails. Would recommend and would have returned if I had lived in the area. Once again thank you for your first aid and service, really...

If you’re looking for a great family day adventure, this is it. My first time today as a 61 yr old Mum with agile 15 yr old and Dad, as track veterans (well they’ve been once before)! I was a bit grumpy as family had built up undue worry re my fitness. Step in amazing friendly hire bike man (sorry didn’t ask his name) who provided me with e-bike and great instructions for riding that became instantly intuitive (he said it would). We did extensive Grade 2 tracks, which were challenging for me, especially series of moguls followed by downhill turns, but it was such a buzz. Such a beautiful serene place, apart from a noisey bull or 2 and long distant views over the Bay of Islands. Yes there’s an expense involved, but for us it was a really really cool day out. Staff so helpful with a happy buzz from trail riders. As Arnie said:- “I...
