These gardens are well worth a visit. David showed us through describing the plantings to us. Most of the specimens were very well labeled which was most helpful. They have received a number of awards in recent years. I would love to go back again soon when the azaleas will be in bloom. I was very impressed with the native clematis.

Didnt know about this place until saw an article on stuff about it. Visited today and was stunned at the serenity and beauty of it all. A secret jewel that should be admired by all. It displays David's 30 year passion for gardening and creativity. This should be preserved for all time. Thank you David for sharing.

There’s no other garden that utilises New Zealand’s endemic flora to such great effect! You’ll be inspired by the use of indigenous plants and charmed at the thoughtful plantings of colourful accompanying plants that blossom throughout the season.

Horrible Experience – Would Never Recommend! 😡 Visited today, expecting to find a proper reception desk to pay the visiting fee — but there was none. Instead, a very rude person approached us aggressively, accusing us of ignoring his sign and not paying.

He took the cash directly by hand and then tried to run off. When we questioned his rude behavior, he made an extremely offensive and racist comment: "People of your culture don’t pay."

When we called him out for being racist, he told us to take our money and leave because "it’s his private property." When we agreed to leave and asked for our money back, he suddenly said he had changed his mind and refused to return it.

This was shocking, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. It felt like this place only welcomes locals and does not treat overseas visitors with respect.

On top of that, the fish ponds were dirty, and the fish looked like they were struggling to breathe — very poor maintenance and animal care.

👎👎👎 First time having such an unpleasant and discriminatory experience in New Zealand. Definitely not...

A perfectly sunny winter's day in Canterbury and a chance visit on business took me to the gardens. I was blown away by the unexpected delight of carpets of pink flowering cyclamen coum under a variety of rhododendrons and other shrubs and trees. The other thing that deliciously pervaded the garden was the scent of Daphne bholua. What a sensation! The NZ native avenue was enough to make you proud of our diversity and pieces of ceramic art here and there were a great touch. That's all I had time for but definitely want to see it...

Thank you so much for hosting such a wonderful event at Broadfields Garden on Sunday 12th October. As I was a first time stallholder I had never visited this wonderful garden before. I would like to come back to visit as I didn't have time to see it all as I was so busy. The day was so lovely and sunny and so were the people and the organizing committee. (I hope you will remember me next year!) Kindest regards Isabel Norton Merynstone (Fine N.Z....
