White Horse Monument — Attraction in Canterbury

A bit of a work on progress right now. There is a series of improvements being made to the monument and carpatk but for now it's a bleak spot with good views and earthworks in progress. The road up (for about 5kms) is a bit ordinary (narrow & gravel) but provided traffic coming the other way is doing the right thing, all good. The view at the top today was excellent. Bit hazy in the distance, but certainly well presented. View for miles and lots of signs advising what is in the distance. There's toilets too, which is always welcome. There's little to see on the hill, but if you're in Waimate, you have time to kill. There are a few bush walks to trek in the area, but the White Horse Monument is worth a look too.
