“Spookers - A must see/join in time - not for the faint hearted - it's a SCREAM ...”
...for the cost of a couple of trips to the movies you get to BE in your own worst nightmare ... this venue ( old mental institute ) on the outskirts of Auckland is the perfect setting for a night filled with laughter, fun, shocks and screams! If it's your birthday - even better - the 'Birthday Boo' consists of wearing a flouro high visibility jacket and becoming the automatic flame to the moths of ghouls, walking dead, crazy clowns and any other creepy/mad and scary character you can think of!!! R 16 if you visit at night says it all, you need to remember these guys mean business, it is their job to attempt to make even the strongest hearted tough-man/woman pee their pants and scream like schoolgirl. They stay in character and really do it well, although in saying that they know some of us have boundaries to how much we can take and they back off at a raised hand and a stop command- the professionalism shown at this venue by the actors and actresses, the security, everyone right down to the helpers in the car park ensuring safe parking is second to none - they could not be faulted. If you get there and decide that this is all a little too 'real' for your liking the staff go out of their way to ensure you test yourself to your limits, as long as you remain comfortable and they respect the fact that if/when you need 'out' you get it, no questions, no taunting, teasing or disrespect... we took a party of young ladies in for a 17th 'birthday boo' party, 3 were fine but 2 struggled to be comfortable with the fantastic props, make up, costumes and actors/actresses and the realistic job they do ... the girls were taken to a quiet area and spoken to about what to expect, a security staff member even accompanied them through areas and helped them to be brave and face their fears - all staff on scenes respected their unease and allowed them to join in but at a distance they were comfortable with and those young ladies had a great time - coming away feeling like they had really accomplished something... being able to laugh and reminisce with their other friends and the birthday girl. The cafe area has great food, coffee, a gifts/merchandise area and allows a central meeting point between attractions - there are several to do/choose from and you can do one or two or really go for the ultimate 'scream time' and visit everywhere from Claustraphobia, Disturbia, Haunted House to the Freaky Forest outside at night ( and if the season is right there's 'Cornevil' - a cornfield filled with more evil then you could ever imagine and all in the dark! ). If you want a reminder of your evening ( apart from the soiled pants ! ) then get a photo taken with one or two of the characters that shared your evening and for a small price take that home to pin above your bed and continue the nightmare .... WELL WORTH A VISIT WITH FRIENDS .... or perhaps even your enemies!!! Enjoy ( don't forget to have a spare pair of underpants in the car for the...
Read moreHaving visited Spookers Haunted Attractions in Auckland, New Zealand, both a decade ago and recently, I can't help but reminisce about the bone-chilling experiences of the past. Ten years ago, the sounds and voices in the attraction were truly unmatched and played a pivotal role in creating an atmosphere of terror that was second to none.
During my previous visit, the actors' screams and eerie voices resonated deeply within the dimly lit corridors, amplifying the fear and sending shivers down my spine. Their mastery of terrifying vocalizations added an extra layer of dread, immersing visitors in a nightmarish realm where reality blurred with the supernatural.
The sound design was nothing short of exceptional, with each creak, whisper, and ominous note carefully curated to keep us on edge. From the distant howls to the unsettling whispers that seemed to follow us, the auditory experience was an integral part of the haunting adventure, heightening the anticipation of every corner turned.
As we ventured through the haunted mazes, the haunting symphony of frightful sounds surrounded us, intensifying the adrenaline rush. The echoes of ghastly laughter and unsettling moans lingered long after the experience was over, adding to the lingering fear that stayed with us even outside the haunted attraction's walls.
While my recent visit to Spookers still delivered an adrenaline-pumping experience and the actors' performances were commendable, I couldn't help but notice a subtle change in the sound and voice department. The intensity of the scares seemed to have mellowed slightly, with the auditory element not quite matching the unforgettable level of terror from a decade ago.
It's important to note that as the horror entertainment industry evolves, the preferences of the audience may have shifted, prompting Spookers to adapt its approach to cater to a broader range of visitors. Despite the slight shift, the attraction remains an engaging and thrilling experience, continuing to draw crowds seeking a night of fear and excitement.
In conclusion, while my recent visit to Spookers Haunted Attractions was still an exhilarating experience, the haunting sounds and voices of the past had left an indelible mark on my memory. Ten years ago, the actors' spine-chilling screams and haunting voices, combined with the impeccable sound design, created an unparalleled atmosphere of terror that set the standard for immersive horror entertainment. Nonetheless, Spookers remains a top-notch haunted attraction that offers an exciting night of scares and adrenaline-pumping thrills for both horror enthusiasts and...
Read moreI have been twice in less than a year. The first time I went with my partner and a couple of friends. Everything went well but they kept forcing us to go to the "fog" at the end, which we thought would be the best attraction and that's why they were leaving it for last. It was disappointing that after almost half an hour waiting, it was only 10-15 seconds and we were out. One of my friends asked the person at the entrance if that was all, in English and Spanish and the person only answered that they only spoke English there. I personally find that it was the most racist comment that someone from overseas can hear. Last weekend we went again, this time with my partner, my son and my sister-in-law. This time we could choose the order of the attractions. We leave the fog for the one before the lastone. The person in charge was doing a Russian or German accent, it was hard to tell and also hard to understand her. She delivered the instructions inside the attraction and not outside like the others. We couldn't understand anything and it was hard to hear what she was saying. So when we got out of the elevator, she stopped us saying to listen to the instructions, she yelled to us. She then went out of character and threatened to kick us off the premises if we didn't follow instructions. Obviously the fog was a total disappointment, practically in and out in no more than 10 seconds. From that minute the atmosphere between us changed and we felt that this person ruined our night. in the haunted house the person near the end, the one with the machete, made very questionable comments towards my underage sister-in-law, comments that bordered on scaring people or just making them feel uncomfortable. Besides, he should be more careful with that machete. Even though it's dull, it almost hit me in the face. In general, the fog is not worth it and they should improve it or just remove it from the themes, it is not worth it. Workers should have a better customer service culture. Some of them treat people with no respect and loudly. It's not worth what you pay and the distance you have to drive there for that kind of thing to keep happening. What I can say to those that are planning on going. Don't brother, it's not worth it the...
