Bushmere Estate — Attraction in Gisborne

We visited Bushmere Estate for tasting and lunch and had a truly unforgettable experience. Shona, one of the owners, made us feel as if we were the only people in the world, as she delightfully shared her vast knowledge of the business, the land, the vines, and of course the wines. We appreciate a good wine, but are certainly no connoisseurs, but that did not matter - we were both entertained and educated. The Italians (a nicely balanced 'homely' 2015 red blend of Italian grapes) and the 2015 Reserve Gewurztraminer were both highlights for us (and were purchased to enjoy again at a later date). Then the lunch, which was superb. A beautiful setting, lovely staff, delivering excellent service and outstanding food. Thought we would pop in here after another wine tasting and the staff were pretty rushed off their feet due to a cruise ship being in town and having 5 large groups throughout the day. All the staff were very accommodating and managed to squeeze us in for a wine tasting. We had the pleasure of speaking to the owner of the winery who talked us through all the eight wines all for only $10 and convinced us to try wines we wouldn’t normally pick and we were pleasantly surprised. Fabulous, tasty meal and amazing wine tasting. Cellar Master was knowledgeable and engaging. We loved learning more about the wines and stories about the wine making process. It was a lovely relaxing tasting made better with the food.

Food was absolutely delicious. The seafood was fresh and tasty. Relaxing meal in a beautiful setting.
