A delightful time at the beach. Tucked in under big breakneck cliffs, Kairakau beach is a great location for a peaceful escape. After you passed the Lagoon you find yourself facing the water and several rocky islands just off the shore. The grassy beachfront offers plenty of space for day picnic or rest. At high tide you can even kayak the lagoon toward the river.... There is an amazing scenery from the top of the cliffs after a steady walk up for the bravest: it is well worth the effort! Self contained vehicle will be super lucky at the campground for a little $3 per night at the end of the main drive. The little settlement is well maintained and...

Detoured here hoping to stay at the freedom camping spot overnight. It is the middle of winter and there has been a lot of rain recently so not suitable this time. The freedom camping spot is also under a large rocky outcrop so mostly In shadow at this time of year. There is a great small camping ground further along the beach so a shame it only operates peak season but also does not allow dogs. I imagine the area is incredibly busy in the summer as a...

This is a beautiful place to relax and watch the sun rise from the freedom camp spots right on the beach or the beachside camping ground (open Oct-Apr). Yes it can be windy, but that's beaches right! Lovely Sandy beach with a good walk to be had. Was pleasantly surprised that the phone reception is now also amazing. Highly recommended spot, well worth freedom camping donation. Well done CHB Council and the local...
