Linden Estate Winery — Attraction in Hawke's Bay

Was greeted at winery by a young boy which I thought was odd , then he proceeded to offer us a wine tasting and we were seated expecting an adult to then serve us But no the young boy age 16 years with no knowledge of the wines poured us a generous serve and we did the full tasting with him and flip book to read about the wines . He was polite and lovely but shouldn’t have been serving us at that age . I loved the wines and purchased a bottle all served by our 16 year old lad I had to add this extra comment as I only opened the bottle of wine I purchased tonight only to find that it was already opened and some missing ( that’s what you get for being served by a minor ) very unprofessional!!! We have traveled the length and breadth of both Islands in search of a red we like. We thought we were out of luck until at a restaurant in Napier - Ilona Pasta (a great Italian restaurant!). We were looking for a full bodied red. Being in NZ really thought this was going to be impossible! Try the Linden 2020 Cab Malbec we were advised. Well to our shock it was excellent. We then sort out the winery and bought both the 2020 and 2021. Both great but the 2020 superior! We have been enjoying both since on our travels here. Beautiful unexpected tasting: we were on our way out of Hawke’s bay after a weekend away, when an accident closed the main road. We turned round and, at 4:30pm, stopped in at Linden estate. Trevor was just leaving, but happily did a tasting for us, and we had the most beautiful time! Stunning wine with some great deals on purchasing. Made a rubbish situation (not being able to get to rotorua!) into a fantastic afternoon.
