I thought that the review saying that the kebab meat was "chopped up burger patties" had to be an exaggeration. It really isn't. Both mixed meat meals that I ordered consisted of exactly that; chopped up burger patties. Saddest excuse for Middle Eastern cuisine in the area by far.
HSP was smaller than a single butter chicken/rice container and cost something like $15, and had salad taking up nearly a quarter of the limited container space for some reason. Kebab was slightly better value but still tasted overwhelmingly of the chopped up burger patties that it consisted of, was overpacked with veges, and the garbage smelling burger patty meat wasn't even distributed properly, leaving whole mouthfuls to be just salad, and others to be packed with the trash tasting burger meat.
Wouldn't last a week in Australia. The worst kebab/HSP I've had in the last decade. $3 extra for hummus (that was forgotten from both of my orders) is daylight robbery too, even if it was included. A kebab or HSP without hummus should be a crime. Hummus should be worked into the price of the meals. It is one of the standout parts of Middle Eastern cuisine. Why on Earth would you leave it out?
On top of all this, the owner tried to sell me some story about how he was the one making kebabs the right way, how other Middle Eastern restaurants that have actual shawarmas cooking and spinning to shave meat off of (like every other proper kebab shop in the world does) aren't doing it properly, and that he supposedly is by chopping up pre-made burger patties and reheating them in a fry pan.
They don't even have Baklava either, as was advertised less than a week before I went in. Guy tried to sell me a $10 brownie instead LOL. Irredeemably bad. If it was my first time having Middle Eastern food and I went here to try it, I'd never bother trying it again.
Unfortunate really because the owner seemed like an alright enough guy until he straight up started trying to lie to and deceive me. Me, and I'm sure plenty of other people don't appreciate being lied to and/or being treated like an idiot in the name of this dude making himself feel better about knowingly serving bad,...
Read moreDue to the good review rating I decided to try Kebabies. I phoned and was told I couldn't place an order but have to come in. Drove to the shop. Waited for 10 minutes before someone came out to the counter - no bell or buzzer available and kitchen is out of sight. It took about 5 minutes to place the order as my ordering 2 different burgers was confusing. And a fish and chips meal. And Kumar chips. The order total was quickly and accurately calculated. Twenty five minutes later I was asked what sauce on the fish meal and chef went back to kitchen. Noticed that they took a couple of phone orders while I waiting which seemed odd. A few minutes later the assistant asked me what sauce for the fish. The chef appeared and it turned out she had another customer's meal. My order was bagged and presented to me. When I got home the two burgers were some sort of spicy beef - with none of the lettuce, tomato and cheese as per the Kiwi Classic Burger on the menu. The fish and chips was good, especially the fish. Not sure if the wait and the confusion and waiting around for over thirty minutes is worth another...
Read moreAs a newcomer to New Zealand with a perpetual longing for the shawarma delights of Dubai, stumbling upon Kebabies was a revelation. The moment I sank my teeth into their kebab wrap, I was transported back to the bustling streets of Dubai.
The freshness of the ingredients, particularly the crispness of the vegetables, was unparalleled. Every bite burst with flavor, thanks to the chef's secret sauce that elevated the entire experience to new heights.
What truly set Kebabies apart, however, was not just the food but the exceptional service and warmth of the staff. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with genuine smiles and helpful recommendations, making me feel right at home in this new environment.
To my delight, they even surprised me with a complimentary serving of baklava, a sweet touch that showcased their generosity and attention to detail.
As I savor the memory of that delectable kebab wrap, I eagerly anticipate returning to Kebabies to sample their homemade patty burgers, confident that they will exceed even my highest...
