Wings Over Whales | Kaikoura Whale Watching — Attraction in Kaikōura

We had one of the worst experiences with wings over whales. Feels to us like a very greedy company with no heart for customers. They called us just 50 minutes before our flight to tell us that they won’t fly with just the two of us. We booked the flight way in advance for our last day of the trip and they never had the idea of letting us know, that we maybe have to reschedule or find a new day/time. When we arrived to talk to them the person at the counter was telling us that all other flights are fully booked (not a surprise) and no other flights will be happening if not at least 2 other customers will book now spontaneously. We waited 3 hours so that they called us to tell us that maybe another time will work for us. They wanted to let us know an hour later. After one and a half hours still no one called us, we were waiting and waiting for the call and felt really stupid. We drove there again for the time of the new flight and they said „ah well unfortunately it didn’t work“. I think I’ve never experienced a worse customer service. They had no understanding or compassion about our disappointment and just said: „well.. then you’ll get a refund“ - as if that was even in question.

Please, wings over wales, find a way to let your customers know in advance - even if its just a warning. We had 3 days in Kaikoura, would have had all the time in the world to reschedule and the planned highlight at the end didn’t happen because you failed to be transparent. It’s not just about...

Although our pilot was friendly, we got given next to no information by him other than seeing a little model of what we should be looking out for as "sperm whales usually come up after 45mins and as one should be breaching the surface soon we need to go". The weather was choppy to say the least and after 30 mins of stomach-flipping drops and dives which made everyone on board feel extremely ill, we saw nothing. The pilot turned back after 30 mins of this awful experience. Every other company (such as the boat tours which were excellent) offer a significant refund if you don't see anything. All Wings Over Whales offered was to have your picture taken next to the plane when it landed. I understand the pilots don't control nature but the ride was horrific and made everyone ill and also if they know the whales resurface every approx. 45 mins then why not make the trip last longer than 30 mins? There was definitely plenty of fuel. We were extremely disappointed, especially as it had cost us a significant portion of our budget. The following day decided to try the boat tour as we were leaving Kaikoura and were given huge amounts of information and saw 3 sperm whales (note their tour lasts...
