Raurimu Spiral — Attraction in Manawatū-Whanganui

We stopped on the way north, sadly didn't time our stop right for any train going by. The model was cool, but can't see much of the spiral from the lookout. Mostly just the steep hill, which is the edge of the plateau. Cool to see how engineers got over terrain without building viaducts, apparently there was a plan to use half a dozen and a 20km detour. There was some more info closer to the railway at the village info board / hut. Sadly you cannot visit the actual construction as it is conceiled in the bushes. There is also no info about train schedules. To see a train passing through would certainly enhance the visibility and therefore also...

Don't expect too much here. Apart from that little model (see photo) you can only 'guess' where in the distance the actual spiral is. And yes, in today's world you'll find more details on the internet about this great engineering success! A nice picnic area close to the creek with two picnic...
