Henley Lake Park — Attraction in Masterton

Henley Lake is at the centre of a network of flat tracks winding through 43 hectares of wetlands and native plantings in Masterton, popular with walkers, cyclists, runners and families.

The Waipoua River and Ruamahanga River flow along two sides of the reserve with excellent picnic spots along the banks. There’s heaps of birdlife at Henley Lake too - someone recorded over 72 different species of birds.

The Henley Lake and Wetlands Trail, as part of Masterton's Recreational Trails is 3.6km. Entry to this trail is from Colombo Road or Te Ore Ore Road. Download a map of the Recreational Trails here, or take a look at the interconnecting Landsdowne Recreational Trail.

There's a WHOLE LOAD of very loud but very beautiful bird life, black swans, geese and ducks, at the lake which was nice for a stroll around. And a disc golf course if that's your jam! I freedom camped and there were loads of bins, BBQs and as a huge luxury there's even a free hot shower! The men's/women's bathrooms shut at 5pm but we're open when I checked at 7am and the disabled bathroom is open throughout the night. There were water taps too but no signage so would recommend boiling. Traffic noise from the main road close by was...

Had a lovely bbq at the park with friends. Facilities were clean and easy to use. Tables with seats were closeby to have our meal at. Walk around the lake is available to enjoy. Play area for kids. Beautifully kept lawns. Heaps (almost too many) water birds to see. They unfortunately are polluting the water. There are bins for rubbish to encourage keeping the facilities clean. Lovely spot for friends and family to meet and have fun. Saw some spectacular spider's 🕷 webs. Lots of seating around the lake to just enjoy the peaceful...
