Lemme tell ya, this is one of those places you need to visit if you’re in Aotearoa. Located on the western side of Waikato, just outside of Raglan you won’t regret putting this on your itinerary.

The carpark is pretty uneventful, I visit here once a year and have never had issues with theft/damage/not finding a carpark. Which is always a win.

At the entrance of the walk there is a picnic table, and some public toilets if you need. Follow the trail for an easy, 5-10 minute walk (it’s all flat) through bush to the first viewing platform. Upon exiting this part to the left you’ll be at the top of the falls watching as it crashes over the rocks, if you head to the right you can follow the path (consists of many stairs) to the middle and lower platforms.

The photo shows the view from the middle platform, where there is seating for those that need a breather, but trust me - keep going, the view from the bottom is stellar and there are seats that you can view the falls from and feel the mist that comes from the falls which does help in cooling those less physically inclined. The photos from the bottom platform are just phenomenal and makes the walk back UP the stairs well worth it.

Return time for the walk of me (very very unfit smoker) + 5 kids aged 2-14 was around 1 hour including snack stops + me stopping to cough up my lung. If you’re fit, then you’ll probably do it in half that time including the time it takes to take photos.

If you do visit I do hope you love this spot as much as I do, and remember to be respectful of your surroundings - please take your...

AN ENCHANTING SPOT! Please note that the location is currently not suitable for wheelchair access. ~It's advisable to wear track/running/walking shoes for the visit. ~Bringing a water bottle is recommended, as there are no facilities to purchase drinks, especially important during the return journey and in the summer. ~Exercise caution while navigating some steps, as a few have a larger than normal drop. Visual references in the form of pictures that I have posted will help in understanding this. ~The restroom facilities may not be up to standard, so it's wise to carry your own hand sanitizer. [ooopsie, I got caught not sure what to do lol] ~While there are picnic tables, it's important to remember that this is not a designated picnic spot. ~Based on personal experience, a GPS may indicate arrival prematurely; continuing for an additional 500 meters was necessary to reach the Falls. ~Allocate around an hour to an hour and a half for a visit to the bottom viewing platform, allowing time to take pictures and appreciate the natural beauty and yes, return to the car park too!. ~Upon entering the walkway, visitors will encounter a serene, gentle stream of water that transforms into a powerful, thunderous waterfall, showcasing nature...

Bridal Veil Falls is one of the most breathtaking falls I have seen. They have four different places to get a view of the waterfall. To get a glimpse of the waterfall requires a short trek inside the designated forest area and then a different path opens up with a flight of stairs downhill amidst bushes. The first viewpoint is within a 5 minute walk from the car park and is the ideal one to get a decent glimpse of the scenery, especially if bringing elders or children. The rest of the view points come about with descending downhill. There were a few narrow passages and it was quite challenging to trek down. It is recommended to wear comfortable footwear and have adequate layering as it tends to get chillier near the water body. And if it is rainy, it is advisable to pause at the first viewing point as the paths may get slippery. The best time to visit Bridal Veil Falls is between 2pm and 4pm when you can enter the area and get back before it is too dark. It is a sightseeing worth the visit as it permits entry without any entry fee. They have a lot of parking spaces allocated just outside the forest-walk area. Nature lovers and adventurers will simply enjoy the view and experience!
