Read moreThis was a great excursion that my hubby and I went on. It was only about $8 each for entry, so really cheap and something different to do for an hour or so. When you first start you can see the steam rising and can't really tell there are craters till you get closer, some are huge! It's amazing! The smell of sulphur is quite strong in places but nothing on Rotorua 😅 We went on a really cold day but it can get quite warm in there if the sun is shining so take layers. There are toilets at the start/end and benches at various points around the walk if you want a rest/take it in. It's fairly flat the majority of the way until near the end, easy enough for prams and children. There is one look out near the end that is very steep and has quite a few steps but worth it if you can go up. The entrance has a small gift shop where you can also get cold drinks and...
Read moreVery accessible for families with toddlers. Bit of a long walk so bring your carrier or an off-road pram. Seriously consider doing the route backwards for anyone with a mobility concern because best views are near the end of the lower track within 5-10 mins of the exit at toddler walking speed. If you can handle walking or wheeling off road on fine hard packed gravel 10-20 mins this is still a great place worth visiting. Remember the toilets are beside the entrance/exit. It takes a good 30-45 mins around with fast moving toddlers. Special needs discounts YAY! Very friendly staff. Plenty of photo opportunities and space to be alone even when busy. Keep your kids quite close, wear covered shoes & stay on the paths. Even under the boardwalks hot steam will burn feet and curious fingers through the cracks. Great spot for a romantic stroll...
