We visited the Hemi Matanga reserve early September. We did Te Au Route. It takes us approximately 3h30 to complete with stops. The track starts on Tui Cres Road. On the middle of the street, you will see a Doc sign, you cannot miss it. There are plenty of space to park on the street. The major part of the tramp is in the Bush but you will have a few views of Kāpiti Island and the valley. The start of the walk is very pretty with a bridge above a river in a beautiful forest scenery. Then we regretted to not have our hiking poles with us as the way was going up and down very steeply, with a lot of roots to cross.
