Absolutely amazing place to refresh your mind and body perfectly. Love it. The main entrance is at Kaitoke. Turn left off SH2 at Waterworks Road, 12km north of Upper Hutt. The park entrance is 1km from the highway.

Only 45 minutes north of Wellington City, the spectacular Kaitoke Regional Park covers 2860 hectares in the Tararua Ranges foothills. Steep, bush-clad hills, the Hutt River gorge and centuries-old rata, rimu and beech forest feature in this magnificent natural setting. Swim in tranquil river pools or explore forest tracks, some suitable forwheelchairs. Dare the swing bridge, or walk the Ridge Track for wonderful views of the Upper Hutt valley, visit the magical spot used as a set for Rivendell in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Campers can pick a spot near the Pakuratahi River, offering quality facilities with drinking water, toilets, power outlets and electric bbq’s. Campfires are permitted in the camping ground and beside the river. Staying safe The Hutt River has several deep swimming pools. Take care as the water is cold and can be swift. The Pakuratahi River and Farm Creek offer shallower paddling and swimming spots suitable for young children. For longer walks, wear strong lace-up shoes or boots and take warm waterproof clothing and enough food or drink for your trip. If rafting in the Hutt River Gorge, start before 10am as the trip takes between 2 and 6 hours. Take extreme care and beware of logjams. Take survival gear, wear a wetsuit, lifejacket and helmet and let someone responsible know your intentions. During the summer months toxic algae can...

If you're looking for a picturesque and peaceful camping spot, Kaitoke Regional Park is the perfect choice. Located just a short drive from Wellington, this beautiful park offers a range of activities and stunning natural scenery.

My family and I recently spent a few days camping in Kaitoke, and we had an amazing time. We found a lovely spot to pitch near the facilities. The campground is well-maintained and has facilities such as toilets and a kitchen area, so we were able to enjoy a comfortable camping experience. No showers though.

One of the highlights of our trip was exploring the many walking and hiking trails in the park. The park is home to a number of native plants and animals, and we saw plenty of birds and trees as we walked along the trails. We also enjoyed swimming in the river, which was crystal clear and refreshing.

In the evenings, we built a campfire and cooked our meals over the flames. We also spent time sitting around the fire, chatting and enjoying each other's company. The park is quiet outside of peak season, so we were able to relax and unwind in a serene natural environment.

Overall, our trip to Kaitoke Regional Park was an absolute delight. The park is beautiful and well-maintained, and we had a great time exploring the trails and enjoying the natural surroundings. If you're looking for a relaxing and enjoyable camping experience, Kaitoke is a...

Great place, very quiet most of the time (road noise sometimes)

Found the payment system doesnt recognise when 6 powered spots have been paid for in a 24hr period, but the Ranger will give a refund of the difference.

$17/night powered site/adult $8/night unpowered site/adult Children have a charge too (cant remember)

Powered sites are great, toilet nearby, bbq area with power points nearby, 6 gravel spots with a bbq table each, box with 2 power point and 2 taps between the spots

Unpowered sites are numerous, sorted into Areas, we got 28 campervans (including a medium sized Bus) parked up and we still had room at area 13. there is a large sheltered bbq area with 2 electric hotplates and multiple hotpoints and the toilet block on the rear across from area 13 (part of area 14)

Lots of tracks and walks, some into serious tfamping levels, others a nice day walk, and as a LOTR fan visiting the Rivendell structure was very cool.

Great night skies despite being close to a city, still has some light pollution to the south, but directly up was very clear, but you will need lens heaters as it gets very damp in the evenings, one night was quite misty.

Mind the one way road system is not always followed, contractor vehicles and trucks were frequently travelling against the...
