This is a great walk for waterbirds. Birds were easy to see and there is a well positioned bird hide. Perhaps the only negative is that the viewing is a bit too good. The walk runs along the lake edge through breeding areas. Swans, canada geese (there are hundreds) and pied stilts all had young, which hissed, honked, and yapped as we passed. We saw two dozen different birds in the 2-3 hours we were there, including the nz...

Beautiful spot, more signage would be good as the track now goes right round to the free Doc motorcamp at the start of Acacia Rd ending end of Millar Rd Lake Okareka Rotorua but you can cut short turning around at the bridge returning on the same track you came in from Acacia Rd. Beautiful beach towards bridge and loads of bird life with...

Fairly small parking area. Nice walk beside the lake, a mix of gravel and boardwalk that goes for about 2kms. Toilets are located near the end of the track. Wheelchair accessible path. You can swim in this lake, there is a good spot at the end of the walk. Plenty of waterbirds to see. We have seen dabchicks here as well as...

Lots of bird life to watch on a very flat gentle trail and a picturesque lake - surrounded by farm land and native forest. The kids loved the observation hut along the 300m of boardwalk. Inside is a list of all the birds to look for. This trail is for feet and buggies only - no bikes or dogs - which is quite apt for a wildlife trail.
