Make sure you bring along loads of water, sunscreen and snacks because we underestimated this walk. I think it’s best to do this walk when it’s overcast conditions. I would recommend to start the walk from lake Waikopiro which is adjacent to lake Tutira and takes you through peras track. Make sure you follow green wooden posts with yellow painted tops at all times which keeps you on track. There is a point midway where you can keep following the track to the table mountain or go back to camping grounds. Keeping in mind if you do keep walking forward the loops much longer then what you anticipate. Note: But do not think much of this post as I’m only an amateur tramper. 🙃

Nice big beautiful lake by the side of State Highway 2. The lake is like a mirror when it's calm and there are a couple of very good spots to view the lake from the highway along its western shore. There is a rest area at the southern end of the lake with toilets, shelters, parking and a walking track around Lake Waikōpiro. There is a camping ground on the east side of the lake accessed through the rest area in the south. Awesome spot.

Wow! I randomly came across this Lake on the way from Gisborne to Napier. I pulled over for a rest stop and was amazed at this body of water which was mirror-like. It was a calm day and the background scenery reflected off the surface of the water. Plenty of parking and shaded areas for a picnic also.
