A credit to the non profit organisation that maintains and develops the reserve. Lots of good resting and picnic spots. A good walk with some views. A LOT of bird life is present and there is constant bird song. We saw Tuis, Kereru, Fantail, Thrush, eastern rosella and many more. At one point, I was sure I heard Kaka. The disappointing part for me was the condition of the bush itself. It lacks the dampness and undergrowth of most Waikato native bus. The ground is hard clay, possibly due to the way the reserve was treated prior to 1990. One-day it may recover and properly regnerate. Also, a lot of dog walkers on the track so be aware, not all of them are on leashes. Gravel has been added to some tracks but this has really just made it more dangerous. I would not recommend going after rain as the clay will be very slippery. The logger clearing was a cool spot to chill out the end and was loaded with birds. The track to the summit was on well formed stairs, we then took the North Eastern route to the bottom which was clay and tree roots. Easily accessible and enjoyable walk for moderate level of fitness. Worth it for the birds, but if you want a good example of native Waikato bush look elsewhere to one of the real mountains or ranges.

Epic hike to a beautiful view. Make sure you use the footwear cleaner system, it’s a pretty cool system and it protects the Kauri trees in the area. Just don’t slip on the step after you have sanitised your shoes. The walking track is amazing and the bush is beautiful. Real good kiwi experience. There are a few steps, so the walk is probably not for those with push chairs). The lookout at the top is awesome.

Amazing spot ! Definitely worth it I took the steps route I think its called kauri Grove as you enter went down the north east side then back up it then went down the way I came up its a loop apparently but i got lost a little and didnt know how to get to hauler log site so just retraced my steps back lol very peaceful your see some birds I spotted a few fantails loved this walk within nature and 45minutes not to far from it you can drive to a beautiful waterfall Owharoa Falls that is only like minute to walk to from the little carpark worth it ! And even better when you take the drive from pukemokemoke to the waterfall you come across the big L&P bottle this made my day I had no idea I was coming to it lol best day ever 😂 also karangahake gold mining site is not far from waterfall to and that's another experience to do I only walked the bridge because it was late and I needed to head back to...

A nice Bush Reserve with a few walking tracks, one to the summit's lookout has lots of steps. . Lower area has some picnic tables, and used to be quite pleasant, but it is so wet & mucky with some parts of track covered with mud last week.! NO Rubbish Bins at all, and Toilets are Bloody disgusting, would be cleaner to pee in the bush.! One would think they would have a Rubbish Bin by Toilets and at the Gazebo in the middle with the picnic table, they did have a small water tank @ the Gazebo to wash hands or water for your dog. . All Dogs to be on a leash. . Washing station for feet when coming in and leaving sometimes needs...
