Lovely walk for any tramper to explore Ruahine Range, unfortunately we had showers all the way to the hut but legend has it the views are awesome when weathers clear. You start the tramp at 800ish altitude and the sunrise hut is situated at 1300ish height.

Best place to listen to the native birds while inhaling fresh air and having a good honest tramp Look them up online and enjoy it for yourselves. Be sure to clean up after yourselves and shut the gates behind you.

You can walk into Waipawa Forks hut in the dark. Nice easy track, not obscure, and hut across the stream and down a bit. Dont bother in heavy rain. Best bit is it aint popular, no crowds.

The park was located some 20k's off the main road. You drive through private farmland to get there, including a number of gates. Once there, the trail heads straight up. You want to be in good shape because the climb is relentless. Once at the top you'll enjoy some nice views of the surrounding hills. Not sure I'd make the 2-hour drive from Hawkes Bay...

Nice quiet forest with a selection of trails available. It was rather difficult to find the carpark and there were not many signs along the trails. Plan ahead and hike with daylight. Went at night and got lost and went around in circles before finding...
