Victoria Battery Tramway & Museum is a fascinating destination located in Waikino, New Zealand. This historical site offers a unique glimpse into the region's rich mining heritage and is a must-visit for history enthusiasts and families alike.

One of the main attractions of the museum is the tramway ride. This short but enjoyable journey takes visitors through the remnants of the old Victoria Battery, providing a firsthand look at the industrial ruins and the beautiful surrounding landscape. The tramway is operated by knowledgeable volunteers who share interesting facts and stories about the site's history, making the ride both educational and entertaining.

The museum itself is packed with artifacts and exhibits that tell the story of the gold mining era in the Waihi region. From old machinery and tools to photographs and documents, the displays offer a comprehensive overview of the mining operations that once thrived here. The museum also features interactive exhibits, which are particularly engaging for younger visitors.

Another highlight of the Victoria Battery Tramway & Museum is the guided tours. These tours delve deeper into the history of the site, exploring areas that are not accessible on the tramway ride. The guides are passionate and well-informed, providing detailed insights into the lives of the miners and the challenges they faced.

The scenic surroundings of the museum add to its charm. Nestled in the picturesque Karangahake Gorge, the area is perfect for a leisurely stroll or a picnic. The nearby walking tracks offer stunning views of the gorge and the Ohinemuri River, making it a great spot for nature lovers.

Facilities at the museum are well-maintained, with ample parking and clean restrooms available. There is also a small gift shop where visitors can purchase souvenirs and refreshments.

Overall, the Victoria Battery Tramway & Museum is a captivating destination that combines history, education, and natural beauty. Whether you're a history buff, a family looking for an educational outing, or simply someone who enjoys exploring new places, this museum offers a memorable and...

Victoria Battery in the Karangahake Gorge is a stop that's well worth doing on your way either into our out of Waihi. I would recommend doing the Victoria Battery walk/tour/train ride before doing the Waihi Gold Mine tour so you get a full understanding of the scope, size and importance of Mining in our little area. The Victoria Battery Museum is a short walk up an easy hill to what used to be the Tranformer Room for the site when it was Operational back in the early 1900's. The volunteers were lovely and had a wealth of information about the operation and area. Good documentation of the history, the floods, the people and the operation. Highly...

We really enjoyed having Brian as our tour guide at the museum. He had so much knowledge to share and also gave us suggestions on more spots to visit during our trip! The volunteers were overall very lovely, absolutely recommend visiting this place for an educational experience. Free entry but definitely worth paying for their tours as it's run by volunteers. Unfortunately the kiln tunnel was closed due to weather/maintenance so we instead opted for just the museum and the tramway ride. Brian did show us the way to see the kiln from above so that was pretty cool. Despite my fear of heights, I was able to walk across the bridge just fine haha.
