🇳🇿Favorite Photo Spots in South Island👇 𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐞 & 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐙𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 🇳🇿 If you are planning to visit this epic country with gorgeous vistas, waterfalls, scenic roads & innumerable “wow” moments, then this list of my favorite places are for you! Have you been to New Zealand or still in your bucketlist? Would you prefer a similar listing for North Island of NZ? 𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐎 𝐒𝐏𝐎𝐓𝐒 (featured in order) 📍Peter’s Lookout 📍Lupins Field (seasonal) 📍Mount Cook 📍Onsen Hot Pools, Queenstown 📍#thatwanakatree at Wanaka Lake 📍Glenorchy 📍Hooker Valley 📍Lake Tekapo 📍NZ Alpine Lavender (seasonal) 📍Tasman Glacier 📍Hokitika Gorge 📍Milford Sound 📍Fiordland National Park 📍Blue Pools, Mount Aspiring National Park 📍Devil’s Staircase Lookout Point, Queenstown 𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐄 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐄𝐒 (couldn’t feature in reel) 📍Lake Matheson 📍Roys Peak 📍Lake Hawea 📍Church of the Good Shepherd 𝐁𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄 𝐓𝐎 𝐕𝐈𝐒𝐈𝐓 There is no bad time to visit this island filled with adventure. Personally I loved visiting in Dec-Jan as the stunning lupin fields & lavender made this country even more memorable for me. It is peak tourist time but in no way crowded as Italy, Spain, Greece or alike! I would highly recommend to book places/camping spots minimum 6 months in advance. 𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐓𝐎 𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐋𝐎𝐑𝐄 𝐒𝐎𝐔𝐓𝐇 𝐈𝐒𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐃 Road trip across South Island is the best and we explored in a RV/Motorhome. This saved tons of money as during the holiday season the hotels/airbnbs were insanely expensive if not booked few months in advance. 𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐘 𝐃𝐀𝐘𝐒 𝐓𝐎 𝐕𝐈𝐒𝐈𝐓 𝐒𝐎𝐔𝐓𝐇 𝐈𝐒𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐃 While one can see some of the main highlights in 7 days, I would highly recommend 10-14 days for best travel experience. We visited for 12 days in South Island and barely scratched the surface. 📍 save these ideas for your New Zealand trip! I loved staying at The Central Private Hotel by @naumihotels. It’s in the perfect location to walk through Queenstown and get to see so much of the city + easily reach tons of great restaurants! The Central Private Hotel is creatively modern yet still feels incredibly cozy ✨ We were able to get everywhere so easily from our hotel in queenstown- it was a quick drive to the lavender farms and Wānaka tree! I loveeee Queenstown so much. It’s such a beautiful little town that feels so homey, and I can’t wait to visit again 🫶🏽 - Queenstown Airbnb, Queenstown New Zealand hotel, things to do, places to go, travel itinerary, 24 hours in Queenstown, Wanaka tree, lavender farm,

The correct way to explore Wanaka, a must-visit place on New Zealand's South Island: Wānaka is a beautiful destination in New Zealand's South Island. To fully enjoy it, simply bring a sandwich and sit on the grass by the lake – it's a serene way to appreciate life. Take a leisurely stroll along the Lake Wānaka trails. It's elegant and relaxing, surrounded by towering mountains without feeling overwhelming, blending harmoniously with the expansive lake. It's a great place to unwind and soothe your mind. While Lake Tekapo and Lake Pukaki offer stunning views with a touch of mystery, Wanaka feels more approachable, like the girl next door. 📍 Ardmore St Located right by the lakeside road, there are plenty of free parking spaces, and walking along the lake is beautiful. 📍 ThatWanakaTree It's not as lonely as you might think; many people come to see it. 🍴 Charlie Brown Crepes Taste Rating 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗 🏮 Review 🏮 Their coffee is excellent, but the highlight is their French crepes! We ordered the Kiwi breakfast flavor, and the crispy bacon with cheese, paired with thin crepes, was fantastic! 🍴 Black Peak Gelato Taste Rating 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑 🏮 Review 🏮 For size, I recommend getting the Kids size as it offers two flavors without being too much. The kiwi and passion fruit flavors are both delicious, but I heard Patagonia Chocolates is even better! I'll have to try it next time! 🍴 Francesca's Italian Kitchen Wanaka Taste Rating 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑 🏮 Review 🏮 Oh my, this Italian restaurant is outstanding. The truffle fries are delicious, the pizza is excellent, but what's truly astonishing is their dessert, Tiramisu! Sweet and paired with their coffee liqueur, it's absolutely divine! 🏠 Hampshire Holiday Parks - Wanaka Staying in a small cabin within the Holiday park at night For two people, it's $86 per night, which is quite affordable. The shared kitchen and showers are very clean, and it's not too far from the city center. The cabin even has a small refrigerator! It's truly a fantastic accommodation!

The Wanaka Tree, also known as the Lone Tree of Wanaka or That Wanaka Tree, is one of the most photographed trees in the world, and it is easy to understand why. Located in Lake Wanaka, New Zealand, this iconic tree has become a favorite among photographers and visitors alike, and it is not hard to see why. The Wanaka Tree is an out-of-place willow tree that stands just offshore in the crystal clear waters of Lake Wanaka. Its picturesque location and tranquil surroundings provide stunning backdrops for photography enthusiasts and nature lovers. The tree's unique position and shape on a small rocky island also make it an ideal subject for landscape and reflection shots. The tree's photogenic nature is further enhanced by its changing appearance, depending on the time of day or season. In the morning, the tree catches the first rays of the sun, and this creates stunning reflections in the lake, making it a popular spot for sunrise photography. As the day progresses, the tree provides beautiful shots of its leafy branches stretching over the water, while at sunset, the orange skies behind it create an exceptional backdrop for sunset shots. Visitors attest to its beauty, and it is one of the most popular sights in the area, featured in countless postcards, calendars, and travel brochures. It is no doubt that the Wanaka Tree is a photographer's dream, and anyone who visits the area makes sure to add taking a photo of this tree on their bucket list. In conclusion, the Wanaka Tree is photogenic enough to draw anyone's attention with its serene surroundings, unique placement, and the changing seasons that provide ample opportunities to take stunning photographs. It is undoubtedly one place that is worth every visit or shot as it holds a charm that is hard to replicate anywhere else.

Wanaka Lake is nothing like the pictures. The lake water is murky gray and cold in the gloomy weather with light rain. When we arrived, the lakeshore was full of unruly youths noisily bathing on the shore. A few vagrants were loitering around smoking, occasionally spewing out some profanities. The famous tree by the lake was actually cut down by someone two years ago. Now it has grown back but no longer retains its original shape, just a few twisted branches. Despite this, there is always a crowd of Indian and Chinese tourists gathered around this area, making it impossible to get a decent photo. The town of Wanaka is very small, with only a few roads that are always jam-packed with cars, and it's almost impossible to find a parking spot. This experience is worth one star, and you shouldn't expect anything better here.

The crowd around this tree would make you think it had some lore or spiritual significance beyond simply being insta-famous. One woman decided to mess up everyone's shots w a peak "did it for the gram" moment (wading outand climbing the tree). Everyone had to wait for her to be done so if you're in a rush prepare for people doing this. Everyone else (while still obscuring *some* shots) were mostly less obnoxious about it. They'd come get their pics and move on pretty quickly. I was able to stand beyond the crowd for my image, didn't obstruct anyone and left within about 5 mins. Good stopover on the way to Queenstown as it doesn't add much time to the journey and there is a public toilet near the carpark for any travellers seeking a pitstop.
