Travel advice: If you are driving from Arthur's Pass heading towards Christchurch, you will definitely pass Castle Hill on your right. You can't miss it as you will be able to see the car park. I don't remember seeing signages that says Castle Hill. If you have luggage and you are ok leaving them in the car for 1 or 2 hours, then make the stop to Castle Hill. If not, you will need to drive 1 hour and 20 minutes from Christchurch to visit this place the next day or whenever your schedule allows it. We drove back the next day. We went here while visiting Christchurch and it took us around 1 hour and 45 minutes to reach this place by car from Christchurch city center.
The walk is not that far from the parking lot and as you walk further, you will see many interesting rocks formation. There are tracks that you can take as well but they will take longer time.
We stayed here for about 2 hours to explore the area and take so many pictures and videos. The kids enjoyed it as well as the place is interesting and beautiful.
