Forrest Wines — Attraction in South Island

A real shame. A lovely location and potentially some good wines but we didn’t really get to experience them due to the rigidity around serving wine flights.

We ordered a flight of 7 wines at 4.10pm and were told categorically that it couldn’t be sold to us, despite not closing until 4.30pm. We were however allowed to buy glasses of wine which as it happens probably took us longer to drink than 7 tasters would have.

I understand the need to close things down ready for closing time, but such rigidity really spoils the human touch and experience of customers. We have visited a lot of wineries across New Zealand and never in a million years would they have refused to serve a flight, no matter what time.

When travelling so far to visit and changing plans to arrive in time before closing, to be refused what could have been a lovely experience based on rules and regulations is a huge shame and could have lost potential bottle sales and good word of mouth.

I hope management change this tone from the top and encourage staff to hold the customer experience in higher regard as it will only help...

So happy we stopped! We came on recommendation from a winemaker we happened across during a different part of our trip, and we really enjoyed our tasting. The setting is lovely as can be, and the wines were all delicious with well balanced flavors. Julie set us up for a great time, helping us select the right tasting for our wants and letting us select a quiet spot in the sun. She introduced our wines (7 generous tastings for $16), and took time to answer our questions. As we finished those pours, Katrina came around to tell us a bit more about the area, the winemaking, and the winemaker. She introduced us to their low alcohol wines as well, which was a special treat. Personal, Relaxed, and Delicious! Forrest Wines gave us one of the most enjoyable tasting experiences in Marlborough. The team offered personal service with great knowledge and tasting notes, all delivered in a relaxed and unrushed way that made us feel truly welcome. Ordering wine to be sent home was super easy — and reasonably priced too, which was a nice bonus.
