Fox River Car Park and Fox Cave Track Hike — Attraction in South Island

I walked the track to the Ballroom. It took me four and a half hours there and back. The first section to the first river crossing was the worst, lots of mud and badly eroded track. The second section up to the confluence of the Fox River and Dilemma Creek was generally good. The third section up to the Ballroom is in a spectacular gorge. This was one of the best hikes we did on the South Island of New Zealand. The trail was a little underwater in parts due to a tropical storm that had come through, but it was very picturesque and adventuresome. The sandflys weren't bad at all either. Went to the fox river cave on the closed track. This track needs to be cleaned up. just some trimming and couple logs on track to be removed and install couple more orange triangles and it be fine. The cave system is bloody cool. Just be careful on the rocks going up to the cave as they can...
