For the last 3 years me and my partner have stayed here consistently, every couple of months when we came down to coast to visit my partners mums Grave, We always chose Hokitika Holiday Park as it was such an incredible wee place to stay, the prices were reasonable, the friendly staff, new clean facilities, gas showers etc but now I wouldn’t go back. My partner recently got a job and has been working + sleeping in his car, he decided to treat himself to a room for the night with his first pay check so he could have a decent night sleep for the first time in 10 days.
*He was a charged $140, the price of a “motel studio unit” which supposedly comes with an ensuite, kitchenette, toaster, fridge, jug, microwave, coffee, sink cuttlery etc, but for that $140 all he got was a Bed and a TV. On the website this is advertised as a “standard Queen cabin” for around $94-100.
We know prices are date departures but it’s not summer, more than half the grounds were empty and every time we have stayed here together and even with our dog we have never been charged over $110 for one of those standard cabins that just come with a bed and TV. He was more than happy to pay the $140 as we knew for that price you get a room with an ensuite, but $140 for just one bed with no extra facilities, we feel we have been severely ripped off.
*There were 5 cabins empty around the campground but he was put in a cabin with thin walls and a conjoining door, next to an extremely noisy family who kept him up all night then woke him again at 6:30am slamming their cabin door, car doors and talking loudly. Overall extremely disappointed, as we now have to find a new go to as we won’t ever be returning. He wishes he had saved the money and just slept in...
Read more100% recommendation! We had the incredible fortune to spend nearly 3 weeks here during Lockdown March/April 2020. We ended up at the Park by chance as Covid-19 Lockdown closed in on us very quickly and we found ourselves stranded in Hokitika with our campervan. It was the best decision we made during this challenging period – to stay put at the Holiday Park. Situated just outside Hokitika making it a great place to explore the myriad of activities in the area, our daily walks to the nearby beach and the amazing sunsets were for us the best in NZ. Sam and his team who run the park were amazing – lovely, friendly people, so helpful, no request was too much bother for them and their hospitality and kindness not only gave us the confidence to get through the lockdown period, but turned it into an experience we will never forget. The actual Park was by far the nicest and cleanest we encountered during out trip. Large grassy plots, spacious, fully equipped communal areas and kitchens, plenty of toilets/showers, amazing play area for kids of all ages. We stayed in one of the cabins for part of the time – very comfortable, well equipped, clean, nothing lacking. Everything on the park has been carefully planned and built - from waste disposal, recycling, laundry facilities, reception, BBQ areas and much more. One can see, feel and experience that this is a family run place, with much love, effort, thought and pride invested. Thank you Sam and co.! 100% recommendation to stay at the Hokitika Holiday Park - a place to discover, relax and enjoy. Please take the time to discover Hokitika and the area around, it’s so special - you will...
Read moreGreat prices great facilities, I believe this place is still growing to reach ota full potential so much more to grow but ovely open plan kitchen, laundry, lounge facility linked so no need to go in and out of different buildings fireplace inside the main lounge, toys for the kids books to read, exercycle if you so shall wish to get your exercise in at the Holiday Park but plenty of walking tracks around and walk along the beach. There is an awesome playground here for the kids to enjoy and wee old school homemade wooden carts that give that true kiwi authenticity. BBQ facilities dotted throughout the campground. Multiple toilet facilities, Dumping Station for camoers/caravans. A smaller lounge and toilet block closer to the cabins that are more likely designated for worling/longer term stays or family groups. Also pet friendly but do give them a call if you have any provisions needed to be catered to also wheelchair accessibility and support in the shower rooms including fold out seating for those mobility impaired. I will definately be back here for 4 days of our west coast trip we stayed here and used this as our central hub drove all the way up to west port and back down to hokitika in the day up to punakaiki and cobden greymouth wherever we went along the coast its a great central location to stay and great pricing couldn't recommend it highly enough and the information station in the longe rooms is great too. Head to the glowworm dell and hokitika gorge don't miss the oppourtunity. Beautiful stunning NZ also bite tk eat at porky's and sit at sunset point and stroll...
