60 year old and 2 daughters did this in mid July and were prepared for 4 days of rain.Instead we got 1 day of showers and 3 stunning sunny days. The track itself is super easy to walk with about 20 kms a day roughly and a gradual uphill climb on the first day.at no time did it feel steep and the longest day was 6.5 hours. The track is very different each day...the first( we travelled Collingwood to karamea) is lovely NZ bush and lovely vistas. The second day is through a lot of tussock lands with the excitement of seeing Takahe around any bend. 3rd day is a mixed bag with some fairy forests and the beginning of the Nikau forests. The last day for me was my favourite. The beautiful Nikki forest stretches to the blue sea with wild crashing waves, and rocks like dinosaur eggs.In all you will spend about 7 hours in Nikau forest a total new...

Beautiful!! We did the Boulder Lake Track and slept at the hut, stunning! Loooooong walk, pretty chalenging with a heavy backpack but worth it 100%! It took us 10.30h to get there (with few breaks for lunch and snacks) and 8.30h on the way back.. Make sure you start early to get there before the sunset! The lake is beautiful, the sunset ligths reflecting on it... magical! The hut is very nice! No water though, you have to take it from the stream 30m behind the hut. No light inside so bring your own or some candles! Very nice...

My favourite national park! Beautiful rivers and mountains. Lots of birds including bellbird, weka and a few kaka. Fantastic trout fishing. It's a true wilderness place and there are very few ways to access via road so you need to walk a decent way, or fly in.

A secret treasure. Much fewer people go here than many of the more well known National Parks. It is chock full of fascinating historical huts, beautiful dramatic scenery, tons of bellbirds, robins, weka. Really lovely tramping.
