Lake Hawea View — Attraction in South Island

It’s with a heavy heart that I write this but I have decided to speak up and share our story because I do not want any other bride & groom/couples to experience the extremely hurtful and aggressive treatment we received by the venue manager, Sally Currie (wife of a pro NZ triathlete).

A simple miscommunication before our wedding day grew into a situation where I was endlessly harassed through messages/calls on the morning of my own wedding! She showed no empathy in understanding that this was an incredibly important occasion, that we were clients who had already paid a lot of money for the venue and had flown overseas to be there. Instead, she treated us with zero respect and her aggressive attitude caused real disruption to our wedding day. Our well-known vendors (mostly from Queenstown - who were amazing) couldn’t believe her unprofessionalism towards us, especially in the close-knit wedding industry, where everyone often collaborates. We almost had to go to court due to our bond being unfairly held and the stress was really awful! I sincerely hope she has learned and grown from this experience as she nearly single-handedly ruined the most important day of our lives. (Maybe the Owner could suggest client relations/mgmt training for her?)

We had no issues with the house and garden, it is truly such a beautiful place with gorgeous views. The house really has everything you need and much more but as a paying client, I could not be more disappointed by Sally’s hostile words and bully-like behaviour towards us and our family. I am the founder of Rewild Retreats / The Rewild Legacy Charitable Trust and have been organising & running retreats/expeditions for the last 3-4 years. I also do a lot of photography & creative writing retreats and have scoured the airbnb sites and the like for unique venues that can accomodate events like this over the last decade. I have to say that Lake Hawea View is the absolute best place I've ever held a retreat/event hands down. The team, Sally, Anna & Jody are really accomodating and easy to work with. The place itself is immaculate, very clean and tidy and full of style & character. The recent addition of the outdoor sauna, ice bath, and spa pool are super lovely. Our Chef/caterer Abby of Bush to Buffet, was so relieved to be in a kitchen that had everything she needed and more. Having the 2nd kitchen is really handy for morning meditation and yoga sessions in the main space. The beds are super comfy, underfloor heating is a treat and it just seems like everything has been thoughtfully curated throughout the house & the grounds. I'm really happy to call this one of our homebases for Rewild Retreats & looking forward to running some gorgeous creative education photography & writing courses here as well. My family and I recently had the pleasure of staying at Lake Hawea View Accommodation and we must say, it exceeded our expectations in every way. From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the stunning views of Lake Hawea and the surrounding mountains. The accommodation itself was beautifully appointed and immaculately clean, with everything we needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

One thing that really stood out to us was how private and peaceful the accommodation was. We felt like we had our own little corner of paradise with breathtaking views of the lake and mountains from our room. The peacefulness of the area made for a truly rejuvenating experience.

The management was incredibly welcoming and friendly, and went out of their way to ensure that we had everything we needed during our stay. They provided helpful recommendations on local activities and restaurants, which made our time in Lake Hawea even more enjoyable.
