Lake Matheson- Jetty Viewpoint — Attraction in South Island

A great, peaceful cafe with nice fresh air, and a short kid friendly trek to the Jetty Viewpoint with amazing views at the right time.

Please note: in the mid afternoon, the Jetty Viewpoint is too bright and ripply to have any of the iconic reflection that it is known for. I had to come back later in the day right before sunset to get the reflection I was going for. (Pics included of sunset vs. 12pm noon)

Also, when I did come back for sunset, be warned that there were dozens of tourists that were bussed (maybe 20 or 30, but me included I'll admit) but it can ruin the vibe depending on the chances of getting a tour bus. The lake has the particular characteristic that is sorounded with plants and trees and they prevent the disturbance of the water surface by any breeze or wind. So you can presence an outstanding reflection of the mountains and everything near the lake. You can even see the top of Mt Cook very nesr to Fox Glacier.
