Pilots Beach — Attraction in South Island

Really disappointed that we showed up to sit and wait for sunset to see the penguins come in, and we were kicked out by staff saying the reserve was closing. At 7.30pm. In Summer. Considering the penguins don't come ashore until sunset, and sunset is after 9pm in Summer, this was extremely disappointing and honestly makes no sense. There were also no opening and closing times on display that we could see. It seems unless you are paying them money for a private tour, you are out of luck. Really...

A short walk from the visitor center. There is nothing much to see if u come during the day time. however, it is still fun to see the fur seals playing in the water and by the rocks.

This is where the penguin tour will be.

Park your car up near to the visitor center and walk down. car...

Nothing much if visiting during the day time.

But said so during evening / dusk penguins return back to rest and go back fishing during dawn.

A small walk down the stairs from the albatross centre leads to the public viewable shore; the gates close 90 mins...
