This stunning lookout at Lake Pukaki is an absolute must-see, and it's easy to understand why I find myself pulling over every single time I drive by (been here over the years). The scenic beauty here is truly jaw-dropping, offering a perfect vantage point to appreciate the incredible landscape. The upgrades have made this a fantastic stop. The paved and enlarged parking area is a welcome change, and the addition of public toilet and picnic tables makes it a great spot to stretch your legs. I also appreciate the well-marked barriers that help with safety and traffic flow. It's worth noting that the lookout can get quite busy, especially on a nice day. However, a short walk down the path to the lakeshore offers a peaceful escape. With fewer people around, you can really soak in the serenity of Lake Pukaki and the majestic mountains in the distance. This is the perfect spot for anyone looking for a truly breathtaking natural experience.

Lake Pukaki is an absolute gem. Its striking turquoise waters, created by glacial sediment, are nothing short of mesmerizing. On a clear day, you’re treated to jaw-dropping views of Aoraki/Mount Cook in the distance, making it a picture-perfect spot. The lake is peaceful and less crowded compared to other tourist hotspots, which adds to its charm. Whether you’re driving along its shores, stopping for a picnic, or simply soaking in the views, Lake Pukaki is a tranquil escape into nature. It’s a highlight of any South Island road trip!

Incredible view of Mt Cook and one of the best lake swimming spots in the country! Easy access down to a long gravely beach via a short winding path from the lookout point. The water is a beautiful clear blue color, lake temperature is a bit cool but quite swimmable in the warmer months. Parking lot is somewhat small but people come and go fairly quickly so never had a problem getting a parking space.

So this is a beautiful lookout on your way to Mount Cook. They have developed it in such a way that you can park your car and enjoy the view for a bit. There is no overnight camping allowed in this area. There is a small trek that takes you to the lake but then there are lot of area on the opposite side where you can camp and it will take you to the lake. The colour of the lake is pristine blue, I am not going to detail it out much but definitely worth seeing. A blue which I never seen in water. We had found a spot on the opposite site and camped for 2 days because the view was so good. Lake Pukaki is so so beautiful. It is like everywhere you go it has a beautiful...
