This is a must see, it can be a short walk or a good hour exploring this track. From the large Rimu trees down into the flax covering the hills as you approach the ocean, the dramatic transformation of foliage and terrain is stunning as it opens up in the Tasman sea. Variety of bird species are present as variable as the flora as you descend the short track onto the steps leading towards the lookout areas and down onto the beach. Best to visit at low tide, or lower tide at least, to explore the lower beach area. The waves from the ocean create magnificent crashing sounds as the hit the rock ridges and slide up the crescent beach, do not underestimate them as they will soak you up to the calves if your not vigilant. The most notable for me was the blowhole I noticed, standing on the larger viewing platform just before the stairs go down to the right towards the beach. On that platform looking left at pancake rocks in the distance, with even modest waves there is a noticeable blowhole present 5-10meters away. Loved watching this especially after I felt I missed out seeing a blowhole in action at pancake rocks. One final fascinating observation was of the waterfall, it forms a small stream that flows down the beach to a point where it just vanishes abruptly. Perhaps flowing deeper underneath the beach.

This beach is one of the most scenic on the South Island West Coast. You can watch the sun set over the ocean, and the rocks and surf are mesmerizing! It is a must see if you're in the area. It's a quick 15 min walk to the ocean's edge on a well maintained trail through the bush. It's not wheelchair friendly, but is suitable for people who don't hike and for kids. You come out onto a viewing platform with railings and a bench. But there is then a staircase down onto the beach that is accessible at low tide. The rip current is vicious and I would strongly advise against going into the surf, but it's breathtaking to walk along the pebble beach or sit on the rocks and watch the surf.

The Truman Track was a delightful short walk this morning! We meandered through a forest filled with stunning trees, and the stairs leading down to the beach were a welcome sight. But the real treasure awaited us on the other side! We followed a tip and ventured across the scenic Sandy Beach to discover a spectacular cave. The view from both the beach and the cave was absolutely breathtaking. Highly recommend this track for anyone looking for a beautiful and rewarding walk!
