The scenic walk around the lake is a delight for your eyes. (also educational) . I have taken many visitors to the area and all are very impressed. The ridge walk offers amazing view of mount Egmont/Taranaki looking one way, look toward the centre of the island you are able to see mounts Tongariro Ruapehu and Ngauruhoe then look directly in front to see the inland terrain and the lake. So picturesque and if you take that walk at sunset very romantic. I have water skied at the lake, taken kids groups to do fun actives. An easy walk although I imagine if it's been raining it would be quite muddy so wear appropriate footwear.
