As you arrive to this rest stop a scenic view of the ocean immediately catches your attention. The rugged beach being pounded by the waves is a drift wood collectors dream and the winds that of kiters. A few pictures and breaths later you might even feel rested as the name suggests. Unfortunately no rest rooms at this site if...

A nice spot for a rest and pictures on the way from Te Anau to Invercargill, via Gemstone Beach on the way. The views from here are amazing and on a clear day, you can make out Stewart Island. The colours of the ocean, mountains and shoreline all make a great photo. It is a very windy spot though, so...

LOVEEEEEE the McCracken's Rest .. its a "hidden gem"... its a very rugged, very raw, every natural... a very beautiful pitstop to enjoy the waves n the cliff-like beach..

We had very low clouds while we were there... it gave a very mystical, fairy-ish...

A nice spot for a rest and pictures on the way from Te Anau to Invercargill, via Gemstone Beach on the way. The views from here are amazing and on a clear day, you can make out Stewart Island. The colours of the ocean, mountains and shoreline all make a great photo. It is a very windy spot though, so watch your hats.

LOVEEEEEE the McCracken's Rest .. its a "hidden gem"... its a very rugged, very raw, every natural... a very beautiful pitstop to enjoy the waves n the cliff-like beach.. We had very low clouds while we were there... it gave a very mystical, fairy-ish feel. Love it.

A great little place to eat lunch. With a wide vista and ocean a far as the eye can see this was by far the best spot to stop and get some fresh air. There are information boards and a sign pointing different directions. Totally stop here on the way through!
