If you’re heading towards New Plymouth from the North along Highway 3 this is the first place you get to se MT Taranaki. You’ve probably been driving for a couple of hours or so, so It’s worth stopping for a few photos and stroll along the black sand beach to the Awakino river mouth.

Great walk for a break in your travels. I walked up to the Awakino River mouth and found a waterfall. Air can be fresh and on a clear day you can see Mt Egmont. Some photos for those who can't get there
