Last day here and was thinking we didn’t need to visit this landmark, we’ve had sick family members so we decided to make the effort and we were glad we did! This is a spectacular location that boasts incredible views of the town and the coast north of town. I recommend you visit at sunset! The walk up is quite challenging, but vehicles and motorcycles can come up to a landing parking area and then the last climb is minimal. A must when visiting SJDS!

Fabulous views of the bay and wonderful story behind the statue's construction. You can hike or drive to it. There's free parking(unmarked, there's just space to park your vehicle) to your right immediately after you pass the main entrance. To get to the statue, there is a short, steep hike/walk up the stairs with handrails or paved road). The entrance fee for tourists is $2 US.

Mi experiencia al visitar el Cristo de la Misericordia en San Juan del Sur fue simplemente asombrosa. Desde el momento en que me acerqué a la estatua imponente, quedé impresionado por su majestuosidad y belleza. La vista panorámica desde lo alto de la colina era absolutamente deslumbrante, ofreciendo una visión única de la costa y el océano. La arquitectura y el diseño del lugar reflejaban una profunda sensación de serenidad y espiritualidad, lo que lo convirtió en un sitio ideal para la reflexión y la conexión con la naturaleza. Además, el ambiente tranquilo y pacífico hizo que la visita fuera aún más especial. Nice view over SJDS. Short but steep hike from town (~2km). Doable in flip-flops. A man at the gate asked for 60c per person which corresponds to the 2$ tourist price advertised several times during the hike. It won’t be the most spectacular thing you’d have done during your trip but still a fun activity that doesn’t take much time off your day.

Easy walk along the beach to the end where there is a gate that leads to a path and then a steep walk up to the statue by road. Nice to go up for sunset. Our hostel advised us to leave right after the sun goes down so we are not walking along the beach in the dark as he has heard of people being robbed a few times per year on the beach at night.

Great experience visiting Cristo de La Misericordia! We were able to drive fairly close, but there was a hike up to the peak, where there is a fee to get to the base of the monument. With bad legs, it was good we could drive near the base of the steps, and they did have railings on the steps. It was well worth it though for the experience.
