Visiting the Igbo-Ukwu Museum was an incredible journey into the rich cultural heritage of the Igbo people. The museum's well-curated exhibits beautifully showcased the intricate bronze artifacts, pottery, and other archaeological treasures, providing an immersive experience that highlighted the remarkable craftsmanship and historical significance of the region. The knowledgeable and friendly staff enhanced the visit with insightful narratives, adding depth to the already captivating displays. This museum is iconic for its location t the site of one of the oldest civilisations in the rain forest belt. The famous Igbo Ukwu Bronzes were discovered barely 150 metres away. The displays are sadly a bit untidy and a lot of replicas are on display. Likewise the building is pretty tatty. However the staff are incredible, truly dedicated and friendly, inspite of the demotivating environment. I was touched by the refusal of one the staff to accept my grateful tip, saying he was merely doing his job. The artefacts on display are however worth visiting, do look out for the 800 year old Thumb Piano. Aso take a walk to Igbo Jonah, he site of the discovery of the 1000 year old...

Igboukwu Museum stands tall in the archaeological essence and prominence of #Igbo land in general and #Anambra State where it is located in particular. Right from its renowned archaeological excavation of 1959, the interest on Igboukwu, Aguata Local Government Area has ever been renewed with each historical significant interpretation. Here, is a place to be explore by all, especially art students, history students, geographers and paleontologist. The mystery is yet to be unravelled and artefacts on transit from ages or stollen yearn to come back home to this museum.

The museum is a good introduction to the igbo culture, traditional beliefs and religion. Our guide was knowledgeable , the entrance fee is 200 Naira per adult and you have a camera fee of 1500 Naira. Unfortunately it is not home to any of the original Igboukwu art pieces from what I was told a number of them can be found in the Jos and Lagos national museums. The building compound could also do with some maintance to make it more attractive - so dont let that scare you off.
