I read a lot about this phenomenal destination in Ado-Awaye, and I eventually went to experience it for myself! It was the most beautiful views I had seen with my eyes! Hiking was hectic as expected.
The first stop was at “Ishage Rock”- this rock is considered the bringer of rain for the people of Ado-awaye.
And there’s the Ìyá-Aláró Lake- named after an old woman in the village who was known for dying of clothes. The surface of this lake is covered with an overgrowth of vegetation.
Then after is the Iyake Lake- the only recognized suspended lake in Africa. The depth is unknown and swimming in it is not advisable.
The last stop was at the Elephant Tree- A fallen tree that is in the shape of an elephant.
It took about 2 hours to get to the top and about an hour to get down(this is totally dependent on one’s pace).
Entry fee- 500NGN per adult and a tour guide is assigned to take one around and explain the history and stories about the destination. Tips: -Bring along water to stay hydrated, and towel to absorb sweat -Bring along snacks to munch on -Wear a shoe with a firm grip -of course don’t forget to bring along some cash to cover expenses...
Read moreIt was a nice place and we have the chance to view the surrounding terrain from the top of the hill. We were well welcomed by the king and some other people where they told us the brief history of the hill and then we proceeded to the top of the hill where we were chanced to see iyake suspended lake, the footprint of the elders, a tree in form of an elephant and isaje rock. They also said that there is a cave that would be able to accommodate more than 60 people but we're not chanced to go there. We were given sticks to climb the hill also and we were given a local delicacy called otili beans which was sweet and different from the normal beans and it takes a long time to be done. The king also gave our group a certificate and I'm so happy to be on an excursion...

From the top of the mountain, you can see the whole village surrounding it. The mountain is laced with lush vegetations that contributes to the overall beauty. You can go in groups and do a little picnic on the mountain top. The lake has traditional folktales told by the locals that explain it's existence and it's depth is unknown. I don't think swimming in the lake is allowed as it's regarded as sacred by the community and it's believed to be bottomless. It's a trip you'd not regret if you are a nature lover and it's very affordable. A rare...
